what a coincidence, I love semicolons! i think it's my favorite punctuation mark
a SEMICOLON is this-- ; --
the person above used it to separate items in a list which is not incorrect but is not the best nor the most common use of a semicolon. use them to separate items in a list (instead of a comma) when the items in the list are more than one thing ... that sounds weird so here is an example:
The students grouped themselves into 4 groups, three people in each one: John, Kathy, and Jim; Katie, Sarah, and Laura; Kimberly, Jason, and Jeremy; Stuart, Simon, and Mary.

the better and more accepted use of a semicolon is this:
used to join two related ideas. it is used to combine two SENTENCES that are related to each other. important: on each side of the semicolon should be a COMPLETE sentence.
here is an example:
"Martha is hungry so she goes to the grocery store to buy a pint of ice ream. Her favorite flavor is rocky road; she loves to eat the marshmallows. "
the semicolon could not go between the first two sentences because her favorite flavor does not have anything to do with going to the grocery store. but the last two sentences are combined with a semicolon because they are related. first it says what her favorite flavor is and then the next sentence says why. notice how if you replace the semicolon with a period and make it two sentences, it would all still make sense. (that is what I mean when I say they all need to be complete sentences)

I hope this helps and is understandable!

Jackie is incorrect. She used a COLON (:) not a semi colon (;). When you write your paper, group some of the answers together, separating with semi colons.

For example: In Middle School there are quite a few rules that students need to know. They are: do no run in the halls; you must be in your seat when the second bell rings and not still out in the hallways; no one can leave the grounds for lunch; and there is no smoking in or around the school building.

Middle School teachers come from a variety of backgrounds based on the subjects they teach. Subjects studied in Middle School are: civics & government; social studies; math; science; art; music; English; and Physical Conditioning.

[Hope this helps!!]

you would have to create a dialog like:

Alien: Do you like middle school?
(your name): Yes I especially like english class

then continue the conversation and completely answer all of the questions.

this is a semicolon in case you didn't know :
