I know that in the middle east men can have many wives, but I am wondering if there is a society where the wives or husbands actually come to expect and accept their spouse is cheating.

There are actually towns in the US that have their own religion where having numerous wifes is not only acceptable but encouraged. Of course they only can be legally married to the first wife but they have a ceromony that binds the second couple in the religion. There was a tv program on the other night regarding this..they however do not see it is cheating because the first wife not only condons this but welcomes the "sister wife" into the home and bedroom. They have many children and are protected through local law enforcement for their primacy.

I dont think adultery is accepted in any society.
polygamy (having more than just one wife) is totally diffrent bag of beans.

When someone entered a Matrimony commitment they should just be true to that one person. Unless there is a religious ground that allows them to be in matrimony with several other.
And most with the rule that the wives knows about the others.

Adultery is something done behind someones back, it would never been accepted in anyways.

You can have one or more partner with your first partner knowing about it, thats another kind arrangement of relationship.

Or there are society such as Japanese, that doesnt allow but its an open secret that husbands have mistress that their wifes knows about, but just never been talked about or seen as unimportant.

As long as you come back home-type of relationship exist.

In the Virginia court system it's acceptable. Proving adultery does not effect custody, child support, or alimony.

Society has lost it's values big time. How will we ever recover?

I think David had a very good answer. There is such a long, arduous process to getting married in the first place, all the crazy planning, all the expenses; if you have that many doubts, why would you get married?
