Look...Pay close attention....I'm not BSing you, I'm telling you the straight truth. I'm a native Californian, born in Los Angeles, and I've worked for 31 years in downtown Los Angeles as a service rep for a major corporation. Doesn't really matter which one for this. I drive past the Greyhound bus terminal 4 days out of 5 every week of the year, and every week I see kids13-14-15 and up just off the bus with stars in their eyes. They come single, and sometimes in pairs. Some are well dressed, and some have nothing more that jeans, and a backpack in their back. Just 2 blocks up there is a notorious red light district, and two blocks north and two blocks west is the skid row area of the city. SRO housing is all there is around there. I can't tell you how many times I've seen someone like your "Friend" the day they come off the bus, only to see them mere weeks later either turning tricks in the red light district or begging in the skid row district. Some very beautiful girls who would have otherwise had their whole life ahead of them, turned into strung out worn out whores in the seeming blink of an eye. I'm not saying your friend doesn't have any talent, or he might actually be the one that makes it. I AM saying that if he does this, runs away and comes out to hollywood without anyone to take him in or look after him like an uncle or something, on his own he'll be relieved of that five grand, and pretty much anything else that isn't tied on to him in just about a new york second. I don't know his parents, but just maybe if they are discouraging him from his acting dreams they are being realistic and know how much the odds are stacked against him. If they are really abusing him he needs to go to a principal, or a police station and report them. Tell your friend, if he runs away, his parents will just report him, and guess where one of the biggest runaway locations is, and consequently where the first place they'll look is? Hollywood, thats right. Tell your friend to stay put for his own good. Bide his time and keep saving. take acting classes or theater classes there, and in whatever college he can get into, and learn the craft there first. Then when he's an adult, and has a realistic chance of taking care of himself in a town where every other waiter in every cafe he goes into wants to be an actor, and he has some kind of experience and learning credential, then come out and try his luck. I just don't want to see another kid off the bus swallowed up by a town that wont give him any chance at all in this circumstance.
