Maybe you could write about the developement of American music, fromt he twenties to now: how blues branched off into country, pop, etc. Maybe even the change of music marketing-- Frank Sinatra's era is interesting, they had all the bubble-gum pop artists then. Go to wikipedia [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_popular_music#Popular_jazz_.281920-1935.29_and_swing_.281935-1947.29 ] it walks you through it.

You've got to be kidding me. You want to write it about music but you have no idea what within that very broad topic?
Some ideas:
-write about how a culture views music, or certain aspects of it, e.g. theory, performance, pitch, melody, rhythm.
-write a historical survey of a particular genre, such as jazz, rock n roll, classical symphony works, etc.
-write a detailed analysis of a particular piece, with some research done on the genre, or scholarly thoughts on the piece itself or its composer
-write about the history or development of a musical instrument, or a family of musical instruments
-do a comparative study on different styles or genres or musical instruments
There are many more possible topics. You should find something specific that particularly interests you.
