It's probably going to be Your Oxygen Sensor, or Throttle Position Sensor, or Idle Air Control Unit. The only way You're going to find out for sure is to Connect a Diagnostic Analyzer to Your Car. Advance Auto / Auto Zone / Napa / Pep Boys / Car Quest / and many other Auto Parts Suppliers will Hook up an Analyzer to Your Car at no Charge. You'll probably have to put the Part on Yourself, if You want to $ave some Money. Do You Plan to keep the Car ? Get a Haynes Auto Repair Manual for Your Car. They're about $12, at any Auto Parts Store, and when You do Sell the Car, it will go to the next Owners, and let them know that You've taken good care of the Car.Hope this Helps !

This is unfortunately a problem I have experienced personally. There is a part under the distributor called a TFI (thick film ignition) unit. Under excessive heat and inadequate cooling from the electric fan (it's out of the airflow) it will overheat and fail, causing a computer fault and stalling the car. You should look into getting this part replaced with a NON FORD part. They run between $50-$100 depending on quality. There was actually a massive recall on these in 2000 by Ford. Check with a mechanic to see if your car might benefit from a change to a non factory TFI.

All my problems with my Fords were vaccum line leaks, stuck ERG valves that can be freed at times by rapping on them with a wrench. Bad oxygen sensors and once when fuel efficentcy went to hell it had a leaking intake gasket. If you mean rough, then new spark plugs and plug wires.
