I'm creating a slideshow for my grandfather's 80th b-day. I have pictures from when he was growing up, to being in the Navy, all the way through to retiring from a power plant. Does anybody have any good song suggestions for the slideshow?

My dad is also 80 years old, as was my mother who died last week. They both loved the "big band" music from WWII. Here is a link to a list of big bands:

It is hard to beat Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, or Tommy Dorsey. These orchestras were at their peak during the war years and I'll bet will bring tears to your dad's eyes.

Good luck with your project.

Wow - interesting question. I guess it comes down to how close you want to follow the time period of your grandpa's life.

I would recommend something like "In The Mood" by Glenn Miller - most likely he was in the Navy around the time this one was popular. Also, don't forget Frank Sinatra's "It Was A Very Good Year".

A great song about experiencing life and all the twists and turns it can take - though I don't think it would necessarily fit with the slideshow and your grandpa's life - is "He Went To Paris" by Jimmy Buffett. Powerful song.

Good luck! Hope these helped!

What a wonderful idea!

Does he have any favorite types of music? Maybe something he used to like in his younger days?

I can't really help ya out on a song, but just wanted to say that I think what you're doing for grandpa is great :) Have fun.
