A lot of men get squirmy when women discuss their periods, it just isn't a topic of normal conversation. It's not like they have a real understanding of the subject. Most adult men don't have a real problem buying pads for a wife or daughter. By the time they get old enough to have either wife or daughter that age, they have gotten over the embarassment of it and don't give it a lot of thought. Some guys never get comfortable with the idea, though. It really depends on the maturity level of the guy in question, and how well he's able to just look at it as a natural part of life. If he can buy toilet paper without turning red, then he should be able to purchase pads or tampons without the color change either. Although I ordinarily do the shopping, there are times my husband has picked up groceries. His approach has always been rather matter of fact. We had babies together, and he saw them born- and it just doesn't get much more personal than that. So it's not like he can pretend he doesn't know about the facts of life, and pads are just one of them. In your case, you might not feel comfortable asking your dad to pick them up, but chances are it won't really bug him much at all. But as a topic for general discussion, it's not. First of all, all the participants in a conversation should be able to join in with some sense of knowledge- and guys just don't have a lot of that. Common sense applies here. If the conversation is absolutely necessary, then by all means act and talk like a grown up. But it isn't a suitable topic for friendly conversation over the dinner table.

About as uncomfortable as it would be for a guy to start talking about wet dreams or erectile disfunction or for a girl to buy condoms for her guy. Would that make the girl uncomfortable? ..most likely it would but it would all depend on how well adjusted the people in question are.

I do not find either uncomfortable to do but I grew up with a sister and mother. It depends on the guy and the situation, I am comfortable with it whenever where others are never comfortable with it and others are only comfortable with it sometimes.

It makes most guys very uncomfortable. If he asks whats wrong just tell him its "the time of the month". Guys won't want you to talk anymore. They understand, they had sex ed in 6th grade.

I'd say it depends a lot on how much the guy loves the girl. If the guy loves her a lot...self explanatory.

it's a sign of maturity in men when they can handle hearing about menstruation, but most prefer not to have extended, graphic discussions about it. i guess a lot of guys do not like to buy feminine products, but one thing i really admired & respected about my husband from the beginning was that he didn't mind at all. in fact, once he went to the store for me and like three of my friends--picking up a variety of brands, products, absorbancies...
