They didn't banish him
they just aren't allowing him to do interviews as part of all star weekend or participate for the WEEK
it's just a couple of days which isn't that big of a deal
and only from an official capacity, he can do whatever on his own

I think this is the thing wrong with society. Everyone has to be all politically correct and can't say anything regarding the gays that is degrading to them. And of course the NBA was gonna punish Tim Hardaway. The NBA is too concerned with its image and caring less and less about the game itself and what made eveyrone watch it in the 90s ( not just because of MJ). Nowadays everything is a foul in the NBA and if u even talk back or curse u get a Tech. Back in the 90s were allowed to taunt and fight a little bit with less punishment. The NBA was so much better like that.
Tim Hardaway had a right to his opinion and i dont' kno why the NBA is punishing him for saying what he believes. Besides its not like Tim Hardaway's comments reflect on the NBA, it was just his personal opinion.

nope. the nba can banish ANYONE they want for any reason. He said what he said and now he's gotta deal with the consequences. He should know with Stern trying to 'improve the image' or whatever of the nba that those kind of comments in this environment would be met with some harsh consequences. If he would have left it at 'i don't agree with the lifestyle' or really anything besides 'hate' then i don't think he'd be dealing with these kinds of consequences.

david stern and the entire nba league is all about its image. tim hardaway tarnished his own image through that mouth of his and so stern did not hesitate to turn away a former player who was considered an nba "legend". its all about propaganda with stern so if you're not "clean" in his eyes, you're not going to represent his league. like it or not, hardaway is a role model not just as a player but as a person because a lot of kids look up to nba players. so i guess what im trying to say is that cutting ties with a person who does something completely politically incorrect with society is punishment enough for tim.

The NBA should not banish someone for using his free speech. The man says what he says, knows his consequences and will react to it. The NBA right now is just horrible, David Stern is a horrible commissioner. He cannot make decisions without realizing it was a mistake and later changes. As much as I'd hate to say it, the NBA is getting messed up.

Fitting. Tim Hardaway is a biggot, and there is no excuse. You can have all the opinions you want, but to come out, especially using the word "hate", that is too far.
What if he would have said I hate white people. Or better yet, if David Stern would have said I hate black people. Is that any different? No. Hate is hate, and whether it is someone's skin color, religion, or sexual orientation, we need to get past the hate.

Its too harsh and unwarranted. Ok, so he hates gay people. Sure he probably shouldve just said he hates the 'things' gay people do that make them gay. But who cares. Just because society is trying to make it more ok to be gay doesnt make it right. I applaud him for being against homosexuality. I think he just shouldve worded it different.
If the NBA is worried about its image than they need to concentrate more on other things. Fights, hoodlums, and a bunch of young people who flaunt off their money and some who dress and act like they are in a gang or something.
Just because there are gay shows and such on tv doesnt mean the majority are Pro-gay. I for one believe it to be a sin. It is un-natural and should not be tolerated let alone pushed on us like it is on tv and in movies. If I played sports professionally I wouldnt want a gay teammate either. If you are a man and you think you like to take a penis in your butt, then there is something mentally wrong with you. To allow gays in such a fashion as it is being accepted now, is like allowing pedophiles to feast on children. Who is to say that isnt around the corner. The more we allow and accept, the more that will be permitted in the future. Being a fag is wrong. End of story.

How did they banish him? I'm not sure that they could totally banish someone for their comments--did he advocate killing someone or something?

I think the penalty is a little harsh, but what can you do. You have to be careful what you say and when you say it.
