WWII Sex Slaves Testify Against Japan

WASHINGTON (AP) — Jan Ruff O'Herne refused to submit to the Japanese soldiers who raped her more than 60 years ago.
She shaved her head to make herself unattractive. She hid — once in a tree. She huddled and prayed with other captive "comfort women" — a euphemism for the up to 200,000 women who historians say were forced to have sex with millions of Japanese soldiers during the war. She punched and kicked and screamed, even though it invariably meant she received a worse beating.
"Never did any Japanese rape me without a fight. I fought each one of them," she said Thursday at a hearing of a House Foreign Affairs subcommittee. Three former comfort women pleaded with lawmakers to adopt a resolution urging Japan to formally apologize.
The memories of being raped and beaten day and night, even by the doctor who examined her for venereal disease, "have tortured my mind all my life," O'Herne said. "I have forgiven the Japanese for what they did to me, but I can never forget," said the former Dutch colonist born in Java who now lives in Australia.

this still happens. there was a case of a soilder in iraq accused of raping a civilian woman- I don't remember what the verdict on the case was.
in other countries that are at war its the same or worse than Japan. Bosnia has 'rape camps' full of captured females.
I think a formal apology is a reasonable request.
its great that we have men and women who are trained to defend their country without getting emotional- but we need to ensure that soldiers are not completly cut off from their emotions.
even a small group of soldiers who rape and kill civilians for the thrill is too much. there have been documented cases on such things

This is a common occurrence in war, The Germans did it fallow by the Russians in WW II. Each was permitted by the soldiers superiors.
The only way to control these actions is by a strong superior command, who have non vengeance against the population of a conquering people.

During WWII, the Japanese did take women prisoners and forced them into sex slavery as comfort women for their soldiers. They are legitimately owed an apology by Japan as there are still individuals alive that went through that experience, as horrible as it was for them.

Taking women to be used sexually by soldiers is still happening, I fear, especially in Africa. It happened in the Balkans in the 1990s; raped Muslim women were helped by a program instituted by several Sufi orders here. There have been reports on the abuse of women refugees at Refugees International. Go there for more information:

Thats no longer basically in similar sex relationships. The state does that in certain situations in heterosexual relationships to boot. I cite 2 diverse examples: a million. guy and lady living in what is going to be seen a "undemanding regulation" marriage through some. mutually for years. community and kinfolk has commonplace those 2 as a pair. guy dies, female left without rights or potential for his burial, insurance etc.. 2. The state of Louisiana, maintains that if a guy dies or will grow to be incapacitated and he does no longer make particular practise concerning his better 0.5, she is denied all assests and his children are are to receive each and everything. including the kinfolk domicile, hence making his better 0.5 homeless. inspite of those archives, the children can wrestle the will and ultimately win. Its ridiculous no count number what your orientation. when you're making a potential of atty., a will or different archives pointing out your needs. The state must be obligated to settle for.

Have you ever listened to the news ,they caught our soldiers doing that in Iraq not too long ago..I do not condone it , I do not try to even begin to justify it ..but it happens ,always has ,and probably always will .....I wish it did not happen it gives our Troops a bad name , because- it takes one to make them all look bad . but it takes all of them to look good one time... ironic isn't it
Yes it happens , more than we will ever know
