Okay, in my class we're learning about ancient Egypt. So, my teacher was all, "Ra, the sun god, and Amen, the big kahuna god, combined and are now recognized as Amen-Ra." So I said," Shouldn't they be called Ramen?" The class burst out laughing, and I got a Bag-It, a piece of paper which enables you to pick up trash afterschool until 6 pm. Isn't that unfair?!?!

A bit more information would be helpful. Do you make a habit of injecting your humor during the lesson? Has the teacher reached the end of their patience with you? Do you know how to read an audience? Can you tell when it is appropriate to be funny and when it is better to keep your mouth shut? Are you a frequent source of disruption in the class?
If your teacher has been teaching for any length of time at all it is likely they have heard most of the "jokes" students make a million times before and therefore fail to see the humor. After 30 years, I rarely hear an original joke.
If taken at face value your question seems quite innocent but I have to think there is more to it.

Well coming from a guy who makes jokes all the time in class...i think its not a question of it being fair. I personally thought that to be very funny but you must understand why the teacher punished you, i agree that picking up trash until 6 is over the top...100% not cool...she shouldve just yelled at you or tell you to saty after class and talk to you...coming bact to the main point...i think your teacher was offended that you insulted an Egyptian God (s) ..therefore i conclude that the trash idea is over the top and next time your in class refrain from making jokes about a particular people...ifu get what im saying...hope this helps...once again though that Ramen thing was pretty funny.

well, I would say that your teacher doesn't have a funny bone in the whole body. But teachers are human. maybe that person has had a bad day, or maybe you have a history with him/her. I admit that it is a bit far fetched though. as bad a day as i might have, the worst I could do is to give a good snappy set down (but even then NOT) or ask you to stay after wards for a little 'talk'.

However, I advise you to go to your teacher and excuse yourself. you don't want bad blood between you (after all, that person is grading you). i know, unfair again. But really, try to know why it got to this. Maybe the teacher might have realized that (s)he'd gone a bit too far and is embarrassed and doesn't know how to say 'sorry' to someone (s)he feels must hate him/her right now.
But even if it's not the case, do it. The teacher might not give you a Bag-It next time you let a wisecrack out.

Sorry for the grammar, I'm in a hurry and haven't got time to revise this.

How often do you cause havoc in your class? Is it continual or is this a first. It does get old after awhile. Actually I use to be the class clown and my teacher laughed the loudest and longest. What I think was unfair is that my teacher gave me a bad grade in deportment. eeeeeee I am 60 now and I still think what happened 40 years ago is still unfair lol. Mmm

Yes, it is unfair. The teacher needs to get a sense of humour. It sounds like she might find herself with plenty more discipline problems if she continues to be so rigid.
