It is no harder to learn than acoustic guitar and it was not hard for me to learn. I started teaching myself many years ago, and it came naturally to me. I experimented and learned chords by ear. I learned how to read music and I can play from music too if it is not too hard. I learned how to play like Chet Atkins on my own. I would take his records and slow them down to half speed and then I would learn his licks that way and by repetition.

On the Home Shopping Channel they offer a guitar setup by Esteban and instructional DVD's and it is very good and it will be easy for you to learn with it plus the whole thing is very cheap and it is a quality guitar that you get and an amp. with overdrive and the guitar and an equalizer on it.

The hardest thing to get over on the guitar is that soreness in your fingers until you build up calluses.on your finger tips. After that, playing the guitar is a piece of cake.

Keep practicing and practicing and, after a while, it will all be second nature to you. Let the guitar be an extension of your mind. Hear the song in your mind and let it go into your heart and then out through your arms to your fingers. One of the best players in the world today, Tommy Emmanuel, c.g.p. said that is how he performs for the audiences. Check out his playing on the internet and another great one to listen to is Doyle Dykes and a great female player is Muriel Anderson. All the addresses are below for you. I try to learn from people like that who are virtuosos.

Easy to play. Hard to master. I have been playing for 15 years (self taught) and still love it. If I were to do it again, I would take lessons though. It will speed up your progression.

A good thing that people starting now have is all the internet sites that post tabs (short for tablature) and chord progressions. You can be playing just about any song, in a basic form, pretty quickly.

Acoustic and electric are two different beast although most of the skills and knowledge transfer nicely. Neither is better or worse than the other. They are just different and it depends on what you're playing that will determine which suits the song better.

When your day is crappy, turn up to ten, set the distortion to 100% and just let loose.

I teach guitar and my experience indicates that your desire to play directly impacts how well and quickly you learn, guitar is like a sport in a way, you have to have basic co-ordination, some inherent skill, and a strong desire to master it, your motivation matters most

That said I recommend you start with acoustic, it provides better finger strength after you develop that electric will come much easier

I'd say it's different... acoustic can be more difficult to play because of the thicker strings and odd body shape... but electric guitar requires finesse to be played convincingly.

My acoustic can make me bleed, but whenever I pick up an electric, it seems easier to fret the strings.

Good luck!

electric gutitar isnt easy to learn how to play pre say, but it is easier than an acoustic people say. they say this because electric guitar is distorted and hides mistakes better haha

It is fairly easy to learn lots of chords, however it takes a lot of practice to get a fluid sound. Fingers can be clumsy at first, but the more you practice, the quicker they seem to move.

Good luck with learning to play your guitar.
