I am 18 years old so I this is not my first few periods....In December I got my period the day after Christmas and it lasted for 13 days nonstop. Then two weeks later I got it again. I got it again about 20 days later. This is not normal. I am not sexually active. I do realize this is not normal and I will be visiting th doctor soon! I think I will probably be put on birth control pills....Has this hapened to anyone else? For those of you who are on the pill which one has the lowest side effects?

The side effects of most birth control pills are mostly good - regular periods for a reduced amount of time and less cramping. You can pretty much know when your period is going to start down to the time of day. Also, some clear up your skin as well. Any brand will work for what you need it for - maybe check which ones your insurance prefers (cheaper is always better!)

Well, I had my period for 3 weeks straight once, but that was because I was on antibiotics, and they messed with my body. I'm glad you are going to see a doctor, that is definitly the right thing to do. I was on ortho tri cyclen lo for 5 years, and it didn't give me any side effects. I was fine when I started taking it, I didn't get sick, or gain weight or anything like that. It helped regulate my periods so much, and they were lighter and more manageable. :) Goodluck

Yes, this happened to me in 1992. I bled nonstop for a year.
I was put on the Pill in January 1993.

The low-dosed pills seem to have the least side effects.

Go to the dr. Get on the pill. Most are such a low dose, there are no side effects, except improved, predictable periods.

sounds like you just need some hormone therapy to treat it, that is whatthey did for me. I started out on ortho-evra, the patch and did great with it for 2 years then suddenly started having a skin reaction to the glue. Now i am on ortho-tricyclen lo. I haven't had any problems.
