i know this may be a stupid question, but can you listen to regular radio stations from a different state? (ex. if i live in new york, can i listen to the stations in texas?) or does satellite radio only have those stations without commercials?

thank you!

programs on XM or Sirius are created special just for satellite distribution. they do not have "localized" content, they are a national service. they do not relay or repeat any regular radio station.

Your best bet on listening to out-of-state stations is by Internet. The recording industry has control of the use of music on the Internet but not on over-air broadcast. These restrictions imposed by RIAA is the reason many music oriented stations do not stream their on-air programs. Even public radio stations have to "pull the plug" on streaming when they air programs that violate RIAA restrictions. But you will get the commercials, local news, weather reports and local color missing on satellite.
