I am sorry to say, but there is more than one process that changes a rock to another.

I'll talk about two. The first has two parts, weathering and lithification. The other is metamorphism.

To change one rock into another you can weather the rock into sediments then lithify, or cement, those sediments into a new kind of rock called sedimentary rock. (a basic definition)

Metamorphism causes the parent rock to change its stucture depending on the pressure and/or temperature that the rock will experience. ( very, very, very basic definition) (Oh, if you want more info go the questions I answered on why can marble and schist be found next to each other, it is a little more indepth if you want it)

Where you will find this is in the section that talks about the rock cycle or go to the index and look up these individually. then read the chapture and you will get all the info that you need.

Metamorphism (meta-change, morph-shape) is the process of changing one type of rock into another with pressure and/or heat with or without volatiles such as water.
