I have had my period for 34 days now. And it really sucks. I got my period last summer, and they have always been long (around ten to twelve days or more). They haven't been heavy, but they're not too light either. I am a virgin. I had never gotten cramps with my periods, but now I have them, and sometimes I can barely walk (but the cramps last a really short time). I have always had some discharge, but never really thought about it. (Sorry if I'm being really graphic) I'm just stressed out right now. I'm always tired (esp. during school), but I don't sleep that well either (usually around 3-7 hours at night) because of all the stuff I have to do at school. I don't want to go to the doctor, either, because I am pretty scared. What do you think is wrong? Or is this normal?

You need to see a doctor. Being tired and the amount you are bleeding, it sounds like you may be anemic. Which means, you have low hemoglobin, what carries around oxygen in your blood. There is also a chance that you may have a bleeding/ clotting disorder which is making you bleed more than you should during your period. The best thing to do now is to see a doctor. A period should never last that long (usually 3-7 days) even though you just started having your periods. They of course can be irregular when you first begin them and last longer. Have your cycles been really irregular? This can cause you to bleed a little longer when you do. Because you are probably missing cycles and bleeding just when the area thickens and not when you ovulate. This should not last anywhere 34 days though! I hope the best for you.

Honey dont be scared! It takes a few years for your period to settle into any sort of rythym. I didnt get cramps until about 3 years after I had my first period, and for the first 2 years it was irregulat, and terms of when i got it and how heavy they were.

You may have heard that things like being underweight and stress can cause women to have strange period, and this is true. As you only recently got your period I am assuming you are a teenager, and as a tennager you need to be getting at least 8 hours of sleep a night. Without a proper sleep you will, of course, be putting stress on your body.

I know youre probably a bit freaked out, but if you go to see a female doctor they will be able to reassure you and have a look at what is happening. Doctors are totally cool, and they know a lot, and wont think you're weird or silly or be embarassed - after all, this is what they do everyday! Women do have long periods sometimes, but this is very long so you need to go to the doctor, but dont be scared!

You need to see an ob/gyn right away!!! Even I've had irregular periods for years due to stress and other factors such as weight gain, but my periods have never lasted longer than 5 days ('normal' ones are 2-7 days). Having a period longer than that, and you lose a lot of blood, and may start having symptoms of anemia (low red blood cell count). Some symptoms of anemia are fatigue, shortness of breath, tiredness, poor concentration, sweatiness, and pale skin. It's not surprising to 'all of a sudden' get cramps when you have your period when you didn't get them before. I learned a few years down the road that I got PMS during the week before my period. Some of the symptoms stay and others go away after awhile. Talk to a female you're close to about their menstrual problems. Some people have great tips on how to get rid of cramps and fatigue, among other things. The most important thing that I can't stress more is that you need to see an ob-gyn right away just to be sure there's nothing wrong. You may even end up getting your first pelvic exam out of the deal, how exciting. Hehehe. :) Good luck as womanhood awaits you.

Sweetie, you really NEED to go to the doctor. It's not normal to have a period for that long, and as you are seeing it can have other physical affects on you, like the being tired, etc. You don't have to be scared of the doctor, in all liklihood it is nothing serious, but it could be something he could treat with hormone medication to stop it from happening again and get you on a regular schedule. You can just go to your general practice doctor you don't need an gyn yet. Don't be scared. Talk to your mom or even your nurse at school and get to the doctor.

A normal period is 3 to 5 days. It happens about once per month. 34 days is clearly abnormal. You need to see a gynecologist. They take special care if you are still a virgin. There is no need to guess what the problem is. Just go to the doctor and find out.

You really need to see an OB...it maybe something easily fixed with modifying your hormone levels with "the pill". Even though you are not sexually active, you may have endometreosis causing heavy bleeding and pain and can be relieved with the right hormone combo pill. I had this problem, though it didn't get into a month of bleeding. Don't be scared! You will feel so much better and periods will get shorter.

That is not normal, I'm surprised you haven't passed out from losing so much blood. Don't be scared to go to the doctor just make an appointment and tell them what is going on so they can get you in soon to look at you.

You definitely need to see a doctor. Cancer is one of the potential causes for prolonged bleeding. You need a pelvic exam and an ultrasound. At the very least you could get on birth control to reduce the length and severity of your periods, but this is not something you should ignore!

This sounds like an irregular cycle. I know what you are going through. I went through the same thing. I went straight through for 1 year. I know its hard to believe but yes I had several Dr's appointments I had the shot that they give to slow it down or stop it as they say and it did not work for me. I had to have a hysterectomy because it could have caused other problems. Please go talk to a doctor and let them know whats going on, it could be that your hormones are off balance and they can give you something for that.
