A bubblegum flavor is a "fantasy flavor". It is not grown from a tree or bush just like cotton candy and berry-blue. However, blueberry is a flavor because it can be grown. Overtime, a Bubblegum flavor is just as recognizable as true flavors like strawberry, vanilla, and banana.
A basic bubblegum flavor is made of ester(ethyl butyrate, ethyl acetate, etc), oils(orange oils, wintergreen, etc) and sweet-ripe-juicy chemicals(ethyl maltol, vanillin, maltol, etc). There are also many other ways to create a bubblegum flavor with out these chemicals. It depends on the creativity of the flavor chemist. There is not one chemical that represents a bubblegum flavor unlike cherry(benzaldehyde),vanilla(vanillin), and blueberry(linalool) because it is a fantasy flavor.
Most blends are proprietary and, thus, secret. No one chemical corresponds to bubblegum flavor.

To me, most bubble gum tastes like cotton candy.

So, what does cotton candy taste like? Bubble gum, of course.

I don't think anyone can truly answer this question. Taste is all subjective. There are too many chemical additives that we each taste slightly differently. I don't think I've ever chewed pure gum from the sap of a gum tree.

It's like color. I might say a lilac looks purple, you might say it looks more blue.

Bubble gum flavored is the answer. How would you describe the tooth paste your dentist uses when he asks you to pick a flavor of toothpaste? Mint,Cinnamon or bubble gum. :)

But how can that be, because we can buy other things that are so-called bubblegum flavored? You are a deep thinker. Actually, all it probably is is pure unadulterated sugar. Guaranteed to rot teeth.
