I live in Dallas, I'm a huge Mavs fan and I've seen alot of games this season.
I've been very impressed with the Mavericks this season. The addition of Devean George has really been big. Greg Buckner's addition has also been significant. I like the progress of Devin Harris this season. Josh Howard has stepped up into the sidekick role for Dirk. Dirk has been sensational, you couldn't ask for more from him. And very underrated Erick Dampier has played very well this season. He really worked in the off season on his offensive game and he's so solid in the Mavericks' offense setting screens and getting lose behind the defense for easy dunks and also putbacks.
Jason Terry has been up and down this season and is somewhat cause for concern. DeSagana Diop has not played up to expectations either this season and with D.J. Mbenga out for the year that will have to change.
Overall Avery Johnson keeps this team very, VERY focused and they are exlimpifying what it means to be "On a Mission this season". They play with a purpose nearly every time they take the court (which is extremely hard to do over an 82 game season). Look at Tuesday's game versus the Milwaukee Bucks it will tell you all you need to know about the Mavs. They are pissed off about last year and they have been taking it out on the NBA all season long, DO NOT look for that to stop until they are hoisting the Larry O'Brien Trophy in June

I do not believe the Dallas Mavs will win the Finals this year simply because they have little experience on the defensive side. Yes they did make it to the Finals last year but with help from the refs! When they faced the Heat, where was the defense?? As for the offense, without Dirk they have no other player that can step up for a whole full series in the playoffs. Scoring 120+ in the season is ok but come playoff time sorry but every possesion will count so don't count on them scoring that high! Once again the Mavs are the Spurs lil' brother!!!

The only thing to stop the mavericks will be injuries. They have been lucky so far, until the recent injuries to Mbenga and Devean George. How on earth can people not give them credit for being 44 - 6... That's 6 (SIX) losses in their last 50 (FIFTY) games? They have beaten everyone that will be a potential playoff team. As far as the Spurs are concerned, the Mavericks made it over that hump last year. They are on a collision course for the championship, come hell or high water. Either way whoever represents the Western Conference will surely deserve it, having gone through that traffic jam of the best teams in the NBA. Whereas I can probably take a bunch of guys from my gym and make it to the finals in the East. So to conclude, I don't know lol but they sure look good this year

Yes... they will win the big dance!!! wow, i read the comment from Willie M. Your basketball knowledge amazes me. Dirk is OVERRATED? that comment is even more ridiculous than the who MAVS are soft story that we used to get. There has never been a baller like Dirk (minus Larry). An unguardable player. He will kill you with those sweet turnaround jumpers, he could post you up all day or he could sink it from downtown on anyones' face at any given time!! yeah... i really do see the logic. He is overrated if you know squat about basketball. the only person that can stop dirk is Dirk. period.
The mavs are tough and proved to the whole world they could beat spurs or suns last year in the playoff. The game that Dirk dropped 50 on suns in the playoff and in game 7, with the clock winding down, down 3, Dirk drives and completes the 3 point play that eventually won the Spurs series on the road showed the world that the MAVS have arrived and we are here to stay. The MAVs have earned the respect and all you haters just can't accept it. It's OK, we came up a lil short last time, but this year... the championship goes thru DALLAS!!!

Dallas will make the finals. At this point in the season it would take a startling drop off for them no to have home court advantage throughout playoffs. Defence and rebounding wins championships Dallas is one of the few teams that can score 100+ point a night and still defend.
Winning the finals is another matter however. The eastern conference champs will have a much easier route to the finals so will be in better physical shape for that final series. (like the Heat last year)
All that said however, Dallas is far and away my favourite to win it all.

ASSUMING that Dallas even makes it past the second round of the playoffs and they barely get in the finals then maybe just maybe they wont play a team that's good on defense. Dirk is extremely OVERRATED! and will not win it for the Mavs. so that leaves them with.... no one. the Mavs are just like the Suns they play good ball all year and come playoff time they disappear. Sorry buddy Mavs wont make it to the finals this year.

No. They have to prove that they can beat the spurs, rockets, lakers and the jazz in a convincing fashion to get my vote. Sure they have beaten these teams but the main components of those teams were missing when Dallas won!

Well there is a possibility, but I kinda of doubt it. There are a lot of good teams in the West, like: the Suns, Jazz, San Antonio, and a couple decent ones in the East like the Bulls, and the Pistons.
