I'm not a smoker and I don't condone it, but these commercials about the "truth" that they keep having on TV are driving me crazy!! People that smoke know its bad for them, and they don't care that it's bad for the rest of the people. I don't think these commercials are doing anything for anyone. I'm not even a smoker and it makes me want to light one up every time I see one!

Thoughts?

God yes. Have you seen the one with the pregnant female made out of ice? They keep cutting to shots of it melting until the doll inside falls to the ground. Then it shows a sign that x amounts of mothers die from smoking each year.

I don't see the point of these horrible, stomach turning commercials. They are taking their scare tactics too far. People who smoke already know the dangers of smoking. It's not going to get them to stop. Kids are taught in schools about the dangers of smoking and get to see those pictures of corroded lungs and what not to reinforce it. Additionally, with the prices of cigarettes averaging 4 - 5 $ a pack, smoking is going to phase its self out in the next 20 years.

If anything these commercials are going to cause alot of stress to kids aged 3 and above who's parents smoke. Can you imaging being a child who's mother smokes and they see that commercial about mothers dying from smoking, but cannot tell your mother to quit because you have to respect adults. It would just stay bottled up inside and lead to emotional problems.

If you truly care about the health of children to enlighten them about the dangers of smoking, there are better ways of doing it other than using advertisements that border on horror movies.

No. I am not annoyed. I smoked, it's disgusting and the craving hits you when you're in the middle of wedding, or the movies, or dinner, and it doesn't go away until you smoke. Then you've missed out on the wedding, or the movies or dinner because all you could think about was smoking!

Everytime I see the commercial I hope someone who's dealing with smoking or any other addiction knows they are not alone and someone can help them.

Everyone should quit! The world would be cleaner and we'd all be healthier and I'm glad I quit!

That's just one gals opinion ;)

I agree with you too! I am a smoker and everytime I see one of the 'truth' commercials I either yell at the TV at how dumb they are, or I have to go smoke a cigarette. They may be a deterrant to the people actually witnessing the commercial live (the regular people who actually get to see the arm in the trashcan). But to me, I am just wanting to light up again. Smokers already know how bad cigarettes are, reminding us over and over just pisses us off and makes us need another smoke!

Take 'truth' off TV!

The taking away of choices in individual rights are the one of the biggest issues Americans face today and smoking is included in those choices. Industry and transportation emissions are much more of a threat to society than smokers. But since removing and replacing the present transportation system does not please the non-smokers, they have ignored this fact. They are a bunch of hypocrites. I'm sure I'll get a lot of thumbs down on this, but ask me if I care!! because I know I am right.

Well, I am a smoker and they annoy the hell out of me! It's not going to change my mind about smoking and it's a big waste of money for them to keep running them.
As far as smokers not caring about whether or not their smoking is affecting other people, bite me! Do you know how many people smoked up until about the '90's? Pretty much everyone. Do you see all the Baby Boomers keeling over and dying from their parents smoking? Did you know that there are more pollutants and toxins to come out of an exhaust pipe of a car than out of a cigarrette? Why not ban cars? I mean, everybody drives, not everybody smokes. Get over yourselves! What if I said that your breath has toxins that are harmful to me (It does you know...CO2)? So stop breathing already! Anti-smoking laws are just another way for the hippies and yuppies to get what they want.

OMG! Those commercials are f**kin' annoying! I don't need the television telling me "it's bad to smoke" every freakin' 10 minutes. I know smoking kills and I do it anyways, the hell do I care? I'm going to hell anyways, so stop ******' telling us the same god darn thing over and over again. Every 4-year-old knows that smoking is bad ...

Those don't bug me so much, but the Above the Influence commercial that likens pot smoking to putting leeches all over your body does amuse me.

Yes they are trying to reach the wrong audience. I agree most adults already know these ideas in the commercials.

I"m not annoyed because I don't watch TV.
However, I think "don't do it" commercials are counterproductive. Those who don't do it, don't do it anyway. THose who do it, can have cravings triggered very easily. That's one reason (so I"ve heard) that it's so hard to quit smoking. Because the triggers are everywhere.
