Timeline by Michael Chrichton (waaaay better than the movie)
The Seventh Scroll and River God are 2 by Wilbur Smith that go together. the first is the story in modern day of scientisg / adventurers searching for a lost Egyptian tomb and discovering some of the story along the way, and River God is the actual ancient story of the people that made and ended up in the tomb. I hesitate to totally recommend these if you are sensitive to offensive content. There are some really sick vulgar highly descriptive parts in these books. Sexual and violent. They can be skipped over if you see them coming and not miss any plot. Other than that caution, the stories are some of the best I've ever read. River God was also followed by a sequel Warlock, but I didn't like it so much, it was all war and much more of the gross stuff.

I have read alot of books in my day, and one that always stood out was 'The Man Who Fell To Earth'. Its an older book, but the end really moved me. Its an easy one nighter. I can't remember the author.

That's kind of a vague question. It would be easier to answer if we knew your age, if you are a male or female and what types of books you like to read.
I can recommend-
Anything by Nora Roberts, after she stopped writing for Harlequin
Any of the J. D. Robb
And anything by Kathy Reichs.

Right now I am reading the Memory Keepers daughter (sad!), Wicked (the wacked out tale of the wicked witch from Oz), and Women of the Klan. Yeah, my tastes run a bit weird.

Without knowing your general age and what you like to read, it would be hard to make a recommendation. I like mysteries, and I also like cats, so I read lots of mysteries, especially where cats help humans solve the mysteries. They are good "escapism" literature--they will probably never be considered "good literature," but are enjoyable. One of your best sources for books is your school or public librarian.
