i saw a question in this catagory about if texas became independant so i thought i would ask this question in this catagory.

is texas a nation within a nation? because i have met texans who have said their country is texas and texas was once a independant country.

i thought maybe texas was a nation within a nation, because the uk is made up of nations like england, scotland and wales and they are nations within a nation so is texas the same but a unoifical nation state within the united states?

Sam Houston once said that Texas could survive without the United States but the United States can't survive with out Texas. So yeah we are a nation within a nation. Not very many states could make it on their own, we have done it once and could do it again if need be.

No, and for a Briton, it's quite confusing... but Texas was once The Republic of Texas... before the United States annexed it... Which is why the State Flag of Texas (identical to the Republic of Texas Flag) can be flown at the same height as the American Flag...

Similarly, California was briefly "The Bear Republic"... which is why the State Flag of California has a bear on it... it then became a state....

no, texas is not a nation within a nation, but it is a state within a state. then again, all US states are states within states. Yes, texas used to be an independent country, but it is no longer an independent country. Hawaii used to be an independent country as well. the interesting thing about texas is that, if it wanted to, it could split in to five separate states.

That is the same way some Alaskan's think. Although it is a little easier because we aren't actually connected to the lower 48. I know some Hawaiians that think that way too. It is all a matter of perspective.
