In the Anglo-Saxton poem Widsith, he travels and has a list of places he has been. When he argues that his travels are important, is it simply for historical importance, to proclaim his peace making ability, or to get allies for his country?

he argues that his that his travels are important because that is how he has gained all of his knowledge, he says his stories are important because that is how he has spread his wisdom with others
