My 3 week old had an upper GI and it showed reflux. She has some sleep apnea and she always chokes when she feeds (breast and bottle). She starts to weeze and its intermittent. She always gets the hicupps when she burps. She takes zantac twice a day and I sit her up for 45 minutes after every meal. At nite I prop her on a pillow after feeding. Am I missing anything. The breathing thing scares me.

Well trents mom she has been to the doctor several times remember she had an Upper GI. She also goes to the ENT on the 20th. We made 2 trips to the ER. When we get there she is fine and they send us back home. She was on oral albuterol but the doctors dont think its asthma they think its more related reflux. We stopped the albuterol when she started the zantac.

my son had the same problem and actually I took him to a pulmonary specialist, because at first my ped told me there was something with his lungs because of the way he was wheezing. They then put him on albuterol through a nebulizer while in the hospital and then to take home and it turned out the he had laryngomalacia.(the albuterol actually aggervated it) Which is a soften windpipe, with side effects like reflux and sleep apnea. He is 4 months so i have to sleep him at a 30 degree angle and put a tablespoon of cereal in evey bottle.and give zantac twice a day here are some web sites to look at

Wow, people are rude on here, aren't they?
Okay, so my daughter was diagnosed when she was 5 weeks. Our pediatrician skipped the Zantac and went straight to Prevacid. If the Zantac is not working, they may do the Prevacid. It works great.
Also, we use the Enfamil AR formula. It is thickened with rice starch, so it stays down better. The ready to feed is thicker and smoother than powder. I love it.
My daughter's mattress had many adjustable heights. I just put the top 2 one notch higher than the bottom 2 so she was at an angle. I only kept her up a half hour after her bottles though. That seemed to be enough time.
I would talk to your doc again though.....it she is still having that many symptoms, she may need a stronger medication. After 1 week on Prevacid, mine was a changed baby. The formula helps too. I also gave her generic mylicon with many of her feedings to help the burps come out easier....it is technically not a medication since it is not absorbed by the body.
Good Luck......email me (it is on my profile) if you ever want to chat to another reflux mom......

Get a second opinion. There is no harm in trying to help your baby and if you think their be more to it, and you do because you came here of all places to ask a serious medical problem, you may even be saving your babies life. Go to a different doctores office, look one up in your area that specialize in babies breathing

You have your baby on Zantac at 3 weeks old? Either your nuts or your Dr needs to have his practice looked at.
So it's both then. You're nuts and the Dr needs to have his practice looked at. Your child will grow up sick if you keep her sick. What is that called, Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome. Be very careful. Newborns are NOT supposed to be on that kind of medication. Baby's need to develope resistance.
