What I am saying is why spinach? why not carrot, or tomato?
Also, why he is a sailor? Is Bluto also a sailor? There is a girl in the cartoon as well. I forgot her name, Is she also a sailor?The story about them seldom occurs in a ship, am I right? Why not cowboy? I simply can't understand.

Popeye started off on Thimble Theater in the 1920s as a comic strip, and then as a cartoon by the same outfit that did Betty Boop. He was indeed a sailor, and Bluto (or Brutus) was his nemesis. They usually competed for Olive Oyl (who, along with her family were featured on Thimble Theater before Popeye). She lived on a shanty town, but rarely sailed. As the comic strip developed over time, they moved on to other locations. Spinach use helped turn around an industry that was doing very badly back then.

Popeye has been a part of American culture for over 50 yrs..his girlfriend is Olive Oyl.....Bluto is the bully who is always trying to get Olive away from Popeye....they also have a character named Wimpy who likes to eat hamburgers....Haven't you ever heard the song "I'm Popeye the Sailor Man"???? Olive is not a sailor....most of the stories happen in or around Olives house...I think that perhaps both Popeye and Bluto were retired from the navy....I watched this cartoon over 40 yrs ago.....Hope this helped you some....

the spinach companies might have sponsored production of the cartoon, who knows. It was so long ago. I think Bluto was a sailor to because he had a gilligan kind of a hat. Olive Oil worked at the local embroidery shop which just so happened to be near the port that the ss Menoe departed from on that fateful day.

I would eat a can of spinach no matter what, with some vinegar on it, YUM!!! If it made me strong like Popeye though, that would be an added bonus. If it made me ugly like Popeye, then I might have to rethink the whole situation!

there is one eposide that explains why he eats spinach..I remeber seeing it like once or twice.its been a long time..but I do remeber that it use to be galic.he use to smell galic and it would make him strong then he ended up in a spinach garden and then they turned it from galic to spinach
