I brought my baby boy (named him Slash) home on Monday. The reptile shop I got him from said that it was his feeding day and he hadn't eaten yet so I bought him a meal. He chowed down when I got him into his new, warm home. It's been a few days, he seems good. I gave him 48 hrs. before I held him for a long period of time so he could digest. He hasn't defecated yet, is that normal? Also, he has a lump on his spine (like an abnormality) and the guy at the shop said it's ok. I picked him because he was different and Ifigured everyone else was looking for a perfect specimen. I think he's perfect =). Anyway, so I've been holding him a lot today and he's been really cool. He'll chill for a little bit, then move around, then sit for a while again. He's freakin' ADORABLE. I just put him back in his cage on the cool side (bout 74 degrees) and he's just sitting there. Is he ok? Did I hold him too long? Was he too hot? Normally he crawls back into his hideout.

I only gave him a hopper, as recommended by the shop dude. I haven't fed him again since. I'll do the once-a-week deal. I just want to make sure I do everything right for him so he'll have a long and happy life.

Hi Gorgeous,

I keep a few ball pythons and I answer many questions on these great little snakes. He should pass the prey item in around 8 - 10 days! The little blimp on his spine should be fine. Just continue to keep your eye on this and look out for any changes.

I have a few snakes right now that are far from perfect, but they live happy and normal lives. I hope this helps you out.

Keep up the great work... if only everyone could see the magic in these smaller of the python species. Good luck!

The snake shouldn't have any bones sticking out anywhere. It is normal not to feed the snake until it defecates, which is normally about every 5-7 days. Ball Pythons are nocturnal and the hot side of the cage should get up to about 85 degrees. Make sure the snake has a water bowl that can fit its whole body. The dish is vital for shedding time and snakes like to defecate in the water dish as well. If the cage is not warm enough, it takes longer to digest the food. It is not recommend to feed the snake in the same cage as which it is kept.

I had a Ball Python named Slash but I named him that cause when I rescued him he had a huge slice down half his stomach. But away I would probably have that bump checkout by a vet but other than that I think the snake is just adjusting still.

no he is fine, but make sure you don't give too much food to him or some food that seems bigger than the snakes does, snakes also know when they want to cool down do if you have a shelter for him he'll be fine
