Not even a contest in my mind. Consider that Crosby is still not as old as Ovechkin was when he played his first game and it is mind boggling. He will have over a 200 point head start on him essentially. I think Malkin will end up being as good or better than Ovechkin.

Judging from the early answers, I am really dealing with a bunch of meatheads.

It's like comparing Brett Hull to a Lemieux or Gretzky. Hull could fill it up, but wasn't as great as making his teammates better at scoring (Where Lemieux and Gretzky could do both). The same for Ovechkin, a natural goal scorer but doesn't have the knack for helping his teammates score goals. I know that Crosby has some real goal scoring studs like Malkin and surprisingly Staal this year, but he didn't last year and still set up his teammates. Plus defensemen will play Crosby a little differently than Ovechkin b/c they have to worry about the pass just as much as the wrist shot. From what I've seen so far, Crosby has the playmaking ability of Lemieux (but more similar to Gretzky since the Great One had his high goal scoring years with the great Oiler lines), but he is nowhere near the goal scorer that either Lemieux or Gretzky was. If you combined Crosby and Malkin, then you would have somebody who is comparable to Lemieux and to a similar extent Gretzky or even Jagr (a bit of a reach, but Jagr was decent at both as well).

Stamkos only had 95 points compared to crosby and ovechkin's 109. Crosby and ovechkin could both probably be good penalty killers if you needed them to be, stamkos couldn't. Crosby's faceoff percentage was 56 and stamkos' was 48. Ovechkin is way tougher than both crosby and stamkos combined, neither crosby nor stamkos is tough at all. I am not a crosby fan but stamkos has yet to even make the big stage of the playoffs and though he is obviously a great, young player he doesn't have anywhere near the credentials that crosby has so there is no chance that he is better than crosby. Lets give it a few more years and see how stamkos and crosby compare then, I see toews as a better candidate to take over crosby for the best player though over stamkos so stamkos still has a long way to go.

Ovechkin is a goal scorer while Crosby is the best rounded hockey play in the world. Ovechkin is a great player, but more of a 1 trick pony. He might go into the books as one of the best goal scorers ever, but will still pale in comparison to Crosby's all around game. I wouldn't be surprised if Ovechkin's career resembles that of Alex Mogilny by the time its all said and done.
Btw look at the +- difference between Crosby and Ovechkin. Not even close.

I'll take Ovechkin in the long run. From what I've seen, Crosby is trying too hard to make the spectacular play every time he touches the puck. If he kept it simple, he could be even more effective.

Crosby owns overchkin, looks at how many shots ovechkin has, hes leading the league this year and he led the league last year. he had like 150 more shots on goal than crosby and only like 5 more pts. PIT is like the mets. young talent just need to get more experience they are definitely the future of the league

Ovechkin is the better player and will have the stamina and grit to pull through the years ahead in the NHL. Crosby is a young stuck up kid who whines all the time! He will be getting clobbered soon enough and his career will be over.

Overall Crosby is a better player. He seems to have several attributes that can't really be taught to players. He is able to know where defenders and his teammates are on the ice at a given time and he is able to pass through traffic and set other teammates up for goals that other people would be able to. He also has the ability to make the people around him play better. Much like Lemieux and Gretzky were able to do.

Crosby is a better player all around than Oveckin. Oveckin is a flashier player. Crosby has more skill and is a smoother skater and more important Crosby is a TEAM player where Oveckin is all about himself. Ask him, he'll tell you no is better at ANYTHING than he is, he thinks he is the best at everything. Wrong! Crosby will have better stats than Oveckin years down the raod.
