I had a 96 blazer and the control for the 4 wheel drive was on a switch on the dash.

yeah, my specialty. either the shifting shaft is broken, or the shifting forks are broken, but i have some good news.

Somethings broken and need someone that knows tranny's to repair it. Probally your mechanic. Shift forks run about $50-$150 the shifting shaft" prob. $20-$40.

I love fourwheeling. damn, just wait til your stuck in the mud puddle 2-3 hours away from civilization, with 2 winch cables broken, three trucks, including a sick *** f-350, ford f150 and a bronco rock crawler, and a friends jeep we found on the way, left to go get help. Had a couple tractors out there, buddy that didn't go owns the company, but still. So many stories damn? Wait til i get to the "sorry safari" an awd mini van wrecked, pulled the doors and windows off, jumping it, flipped it once, exhaust manifold was so hot, we were so cold, it was actually glowing.... damn good times???

may be low on fluid, there is a fill hole on the side at the top of the trasfer case. I recommend getting a "Haynes" book from Napa or any major auto parts store. Its a huge help for solving problems and fixing it yourself. Its $13 or $14. Anyway Transfer cases use a lightwieght oil like you would find in a tranny.

YOUR TRUCK USES AN ELECTRONIC ELEMENT THAT HEATS FLUID THAT EXPANDS MAKING THE FRONT AXLE ENGAGE. THIS PROBLEM IS NOT UNCOMMON. TWO SOLUTIONS. ONE GET A NEW ELEMENT FROM DEALER OR PARTS STORE AND INSTALL IT INSTALL IS FAIRLY EASY. TWO SWITCH TO MANUAL CONVERSION KIT. AVAILABLE ONLINE AND A LITTLE HARDER TO INSTALL BUT VERY RELIABLE. GOOD LUCK.
