It's true that airplanes bank when they turn.

More correctly, you could say that banking is HOW airplanes turn.

When the airplane banks, the lifting force of the wings is no longer pointed straight up...it is pointed partially to the inside. This is the force that actually makes the airplane turn. The steeper the plane banks, the larger the component of lift that is pointed toward the side, and the faster the plane turns.

When an airplane is in straight and level flight and the airplane is imputed to turn right, the right side aileron moves up driving the right wing down and left aileron on the left wing up lifting the left wing. To make a coordinated turn, you also input rudder and pull back on the yoke lifting the nose all at the same time to make a coordinated turn and in that process of making coordinated turn without losing altitude, the airplane banks. The more the inputs the steeper the bank. An airplane does not necessarily have to bank when turning but that would be considered skidding and not a coordinated turn. You want to make a coordinated turn with appropriate control inputs to keep within the airplane operating limits and keep the stresses on the airframe to a minimum.

If you triangulate you will see that Bank force will be either to right of left and it is therefore F times the Sin theta, where theta is the bank angle and F is the calculated Centripugal force calculated from the velocity

they dont have too, but they do because it is quicker and easier.
you might ask the same for a bike?
and i give the same answer, you see a bike does corner while banking, but a bike with training wheels does not, and it corners slower and is harder to do.
