I would appreciate it if I could get quotes from people who had to go through it(and still are) or insight from others about the event.
Thank You.

I'll give you the number one heard quote on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

"We never thought it would be so bad."

In second place (before the storm, anyway)

"My house/business/school survived Camille, it can survive this!"

And I'll tell you my own.

The worst part of the storm wasn't during the storm. It was the day after the storm. We drove down into Delisle (a neighboring town where many of my friends lived). When we got there, we were greeted by destruction and an eerie quietness to the whole scene. There were houses that looked like just the windows were ripped out, trailers overturned and thrown about, and slabs with piles of wood sitting there. I thought about how many of my friends lived in the particular neighborhood we were driving through, and looked at the smashed houses. I can never describe the feeling that I got just then. It was like I had just seen their obituaries, but I couldn't confirm them. There was no way they could have survived if they had stayed.

Fortunately, all of them got through relatively well.
