The answer to your question depends on your knowledge of 4 cycle engines. What type of vehicle is this for and how is this vehicle being used? Typically horsepower is measured by how much you can change the temperature of the air going in vs the air going out of a car engine. So the colder the air going in, the more horsepower you can make, in theory. But if this is a street car being driven to work and you rarely go over 80mph, don't waste your money, you are not moving fast enough to reep any benefits from cold air intake. One thing to consider is a less restrictive air intake, like a bigger air cleaner or a less restrictive air filter. This will help the engine pull more air in for each spin of the crankshaft. Short ram and cold air intakes are more effective on race cars over 80mph.

As far as I know every car made since 1990 has a cold air intake. Before 1980 most cars had hot air intakes similar to short ram intakes, drawing hot air from the engine compartment but the quest for better performance and fuel economy led to modern intakes with heat stove preheat and cold air induction. Unless you are planning on putting out a thousand dollars or more for an intake made for a larger engine than came stock in your car, both types of intake are going to be inferior to what Audi made for your car.40 years ago an aftermarket cold air intake was an inmprovement, today it is a step backward. Short rams are two steps backward.

None. Lol

Cold air intake is better. I dont here of short rams anymore.. all that is is just sorter tubing, hopefully you can figure that out. Increases the air speed a lil bit.

Cold air intake grabs the colder air thats near the ground, and colder air, equals better mixture, and a better running engine, doesn't increase horse power as much, but an air filter will do just as good as cold air intake. Choose k&n.

cold air intake will use a duct to take colder, denser, more explosive air from the front of the engine bay, a short ram intake will take it in at a higher velocity, but will suck warm air in robbing you of power. The best compromise you can get is something like a viper, or a BMC CDA2 a cold air induction kit with a ramair effect built into the filter-the best of both worlds. Expect around 2-5hp gains depending on ur engine.

Cold air intake is an indirect flow of cold air going through an aluminum piping for a cooler air intake charge. Ram air is a deliberate and more so direct flow of cool straight shot of air into the TBI or carburetor. I hope this helps.

i own a repair shop, and cold air is better anytime, short ram is nothing more than a cut off version of a breather really ,cold air moves cold air from a different part in to the air intake and cooler air means better combustion, good luck i hope this help,s.

personal opinion ram is better since you won't need to remove it when it rains. Differences are the position of your filter cold air filters are most often positioned at one of the front corners at the lowest point possible to obtain the most amount of clean air but you hit a puddle and you might get water in your intake.

Cold air is better than warmed air which these so-called large diameter short rams dish out. Cold air contains is dense air with smaller molecules of oxygen. Hot under hood air simply expands available air with less oxygen per unit of air.

cold air is better, the diff is a cold air circulates cold air through out your engine cooling and it letting it breath better, a shrort ram intake just lets it breath better

cold air because it is more dense and it allows the engine to take advantage of the more dense air so it burns better giving you more horsepower
