Could this union be greater than the sum of the parts...

It would definitely level the playing field on the international front, a bipolar world (or even multipolar given the potential rise of China) would prevent unilateral decisions being made, such as the war in Iraq. It could balance the power and apparent subjectivity of 'justice' that we see today. The only problem I can think of, is a struggle for control within the European 'State', most likely between France (with its Gaullist ideal) and the UK.

My gut reaction is No, Each Country has it's own identity and parliaments. In the UK there is a genuine lack of trust in the European institutions. The top of the pile the commission, made up of unelected bureaucrats. Sending out dictats left right and center. The accounts have not being signed off, for over 6 years, there is so much fraud!!! The bigger the union the more abuse and waste. It cost the average UK family £120.00 per year extra for food because of membership and 6 billion GBPdisappears into the EU coffers from the UK. IT means NO NO NO from me.

Yes, and they are trying to form a short of loose Union called the EU or European Union with their own constitution too. It's mostly an economic agreement that would establish free trade between all of Europe but they are having a hard time getting everyone to ratify the constitution. They even have their own EU currency called the Euro that has been very successful.

There are pros and cons to this idea (losing cultural identity vs. strengthened social and economic ties); however, it should be the decision of the people of these nations, not the governments. Peaceful joining of nations is far better than forceful ones. Hitler and Napoleon tried to unite Europe the wrong way. It would be historically profound if the continent was united without bloodshed through the will of the people.

No. I am a nationalist and I don't believe it would work anyway. If the EU had wanted to create a union in the beginning it might have worked but everyone is too far down the line for that to happen now.

Europe is made up of countries with varying degrees of national sovreignty. The EU already exists with its own currency but is divided on how to ensure their survival against islamofascism, which has already targeted England for extinction.

There is, to a limited extent, it is called the European Union. It will help improve the former Soviet Republics and ease travel restrictions throughout the region.

You mean the E.U. (European Union). Pretty much the same thing however the countries are still individuals but they unionized to get stuff done.
