the first public display was the sheep, cloning an embryo just takes a dna half from the mother and combines it with the egg in place of sperm, and it still grows naturally. you could just replace the whole nucleus of the egg with a mans dna and grow the egg.

cloning of stem cells like much of science is an already occuring phenomenon that we learn to manipulate.

Bio 101 after your eggs are fertilized it's a single cell and begins to divide, doubling itself at an astounding rate, these early cells are all the same and harken back to early evolution and single cell mitosis and division for reproduction, things are just one and become two growing with such positivity that we never see again in our life cycle and declining age. These miraculous early cells that will be the pioneers of the colony of cells that is human are STEM cells, undifferentiated workers ready to go to the new world and do whatever must be done. They eventually differentiate in the womb and become hearts lungs arms and heads.

So we say lets take some cells, you will pass these eggs out every 28 days anyway, why waste em, can we stop differentiation and have one drectly produce tons of others, biologically compatible materials for useing and building use. Stimulate undifferentiated cells to develope how we want, grow just into lung celss a heart, not farming from a clonbe who is conscious but just growing them straight by them selves, or grow clones outside of a mother or in an artificial womb which is not possible now.

some people are doing some gross things with animal matter trying to use flesh as a subtrate to build working organs, they are just now making simple structures like viens which is really just tubing and that is difficult so it is a far way from constructing a functioning living pump for the heart.

So many sheep blindly following the Dolly path. Somedude is dead on, even if you ignore plants, which have been cloned for centuries, there are other animal clonings that occurred before Dolly. Dolly was simply the first mammal.

We cloned plants first, don't believe the animal-centric answerers. And we cloned frogs before Dolly anyway.
