Ironically, this is one of the effects of global warming.
It will lead to extremes of temperature.

I just finished reading State of Fear by Michael Crichton.
I'm not so sure about the global warming scare anymore. He quotes a lot of sources that indicate that we're in a natural warming trend since the year 1850. Maybe accelerated by humanity, but still a natural process.
It's terrible for the 12+ people who died. Severe weather sucks. We're helpless when it comes to that.

Yep, a barren desert in the summer, and freezing winters, global warming means it just gets warmer, lol
