It is just A.O.L is doubling its speeds at the moment from 2 meg up to 4 meg. (AOL GOLD PACKAGE) But my computer is not exactly new anymore. So is this speed upgrade just a waste of time. Advice off any computer experts would be helpful. Cheers.

These people annoy me...

If your computer can't handle the transfer speed of you connection, the speed will not increase past a certain level that your computer can handle.

I don't know you computer specs so I can't you if it will get up to 4 megs or not, sorry.

Not exactly a waste of time no...
Yes as other people have answered, Your internet speed (or the speed the pc can handle the internet) varies due to the speed of the pc.
For example i have built my own pc and it is better than any £2000 pc that you can buy in a shop today.. and its a year old (really old in computer years) and im only supposed to get 2Mbps of internet but im collecting 5Mbps..
Clean the unused files off the machine, Remove any dead programmes, Format it if you feel confident in doing so.. I would suggest reviewing your system spec and comparing it to any new games minimum spec, if you fall short then maby an upgrade may be in order. Ram can be cheap as chips, a 512Mb chip can be bought for around £30

Actually the computer can only bring in a number of things at once. Think of it as a fat guy eatting a burger. The guy is really huge and u think he can eat the 16 he buys but when he can't eat anymore he still has 8 left. half of what he started with he ate. this is all do to the size of his stomach. he can only fit in it what it will allow. now lets u put some more RAM or virtual memory in your computer. it is the same as a guy the same size with a bigger stomach getting 16 burgers and eatting all of them just simply more room. now something many people also overlook is if they put a better graphics card in. It is that same as the first guy eatting a laxative as he is eatting burgers and pooping them out as he goes. this is becuz the stomach never actually fills up as your CPU never gets overworked in the same case. gross i know but it is easier to explain that way.lol...hope i helped...i would look into it a little more and if all else fails go to best buy and ask the geek squad.lol..later buddy

the only things that will change from getting 4 mb connection is the speed that you download and the speed pages open on the net. everything else will stay exactly as they are now with your current 2 mb connection.

I've got 512 k the lowest and I find it fine so I dont see why you would want to go from 2 to 4 meg, I reckon all this speed is just unecassary..save yer money

No, the speed of your connection is always relevant. It's just a matter of whether you want to go a little faster than you do now or a lot faster with a better computer.
