He has already smoothed the way for implementation of martial law. Public Law 109-364, or the "John Warner Defense Authorization Act of 2007" (H.R.5122) (2), which was signed by the commander in chief on October 17th, 2006, in a private Oval Office ceremony, allows the President to declare a "public emergency" and station troops anywhere in America and take control of state-based National Guard units without the consent of the governor or local authorities, in order to "suppress public disorder."

The law also facilitates militarized police round-ups and detention of protesters, so called "illegal aliens," "potential terrorists" and other "undesirables" for detention in facilities already contracted for and under construction by Halliburton. That's right. Under the cover of a trumped-up "immigration emergency" and the frenzied militarization of the southern border, detention camps are being constructed right under our noses, camps designed for anyone who resists the foreign and domestic agenda of the Bush administration.

Would he use these powers to retain his office? Hard to predict, but we are clearly headed in the direction of a police state.

Oh, honestly. I suggest you back out of the mindset that Star Wars: Episode III was meant as a commentary on the Bush Administration. He isn't evil, he isn't power-hungry, and he definitely isn't stupid -- contrary to what appears to be popular opinion.

What he has always wanted is to finish what his dad started and I believe he will do just about anything including martial law to see it done.

NO, he can't, there would be impeachment, as much as people don't like him, he isn't stupid, and martial law will not necessarily keep him in office longer.

What do Martians have to do with the presidential office? (Thank you Capt. Murphy of SeaLab 2021!)

No, I know what you're talking about. And no, he won't. There's conspiracy theories and then there's just straight nonsense like this.

No. He has no grounds to do this unless the people protesting for peace start violent riots across the nation, but that would make them hypocrits.
