Both are great parks, a little smaller than some in the area.

Universal has more coasters and is better for the thrill seeker.

MGM is an interesting parks, really great shows, and several great rides, but nothing too thrilling.

If you only plan to go to one park, Universal will probably be your better deal, if you will be the area for a while. They have deals on the tickets so that you get, I believe, 7 days admission for less than $100 or something like that. Disney has deals on tickets as well, but only for longer passes, so they run a little more.

Okay, I'm the most biased person in the world, but I have been to both and I'd pick MGM hands down. There is no comparison. Actually, Universal and MGM are about on par as far as having shows and thrill rides. The one where you get a lot of coasters is Islands of Adventure (right by Universal), which is nice, lots of thrills. MGM has much more to do than Universal, and as corny as it sounds, there really is some magic in the Disney parks. You will find yourself in old Hollywood, and experience many different shows and rides (MGM is the park that contains the most thrill rides of all the Disney parks, but there is at least one at each park.) Rock n Roller Coaster is truly amazing, not something you could get at Six Flags.

it all depends on what kind of rides you enjoy. universal studios has a lot of thrilling rides and shows, and older people would enjoy it. MGM has a lot of shows, which are pretty cool. the only two real thrillers there are tower of terror and rockin aerosmith roller coaster.

I personally like Universal Studios better, they have more rides, they have pretty good shows, lots of good food places etc. It's an awesome park to visit!
