Pour Baking Soda, Down the drain and wait a few moments, and then add 1/2 cup of white vinegar, wait about 5 minutes and then flush with very hot water. I do this every 2 to3 months.

Try some vinegar...They also have the thing that sends a bunch of pressured air through the drain. I hear that they work like a charm. A plunger will probably work for this.
I also hear that a can of coke is good as well. Don't forget to run water after a few minutes. You don't want it to eat your pipes.

I heard this the other day . . . pour a cup of coarse salt down the drain and follow with 3 cups of very hot water. I haven't tried it yet but Rachel Ray says it works. . .

There's really nothing like lye. If you have local sewar, it is detoxed there. Drano or anything along those lines, most "green" prducts, don't work that well.
