Elected to what office?

He was a member of the House of Representatives 1823-1827,
elected November, 1822.

He was elected Governor of Tennessee in 1827, but served only one year.

He was elected President of Texas twice: September 5, 1836 (serving 1836-1838) and again in 1841 (serving 1841-1844)

He also served in the Texas Legislature in 1839-1840.

He was elected to the US Senate in 1845, serving from 1845 to 1859.

Houston left the Senate to run from Governor of Texas, and won in 1859. He is the only person in US history to serve as governor of two different states.

Houston left the Governorship in 1861, when he refused to join the secessionist movement. He was replaced by his Lt. Governor.

Houston died in July of 1863.
