If you are making one shirt for yourself, they will not say or do anything. If you are making a dozen shirts to sell to your friends and family, they probably will not do or say anything. But if you are mass producing shirts for all the Wal-Marts and Targets in the US, you will have a problem on your hands.

If the artwork on the shirt is not completely your own, you cannot copyright it or use the copyright symbol without permission from the owner of the artwork.
