I don't wanna play just " ta ta ta ta" for a song while singing but whenever I try a different beat for the same song, I just can't sing it right or play it right at the right time......any idea on how I can play guitar and sing at the same time?

I know exactly what your going through because i still am having problems with the same thing...
I just am taking it slow...first i start out with a simple g chord strum...and sing a line of a song or something...as you get better go to more complex stuff....thats what i learned

This sounds so simple, and you might think I'm being 'smart'... but seriously it just takes practice. Learn the song inside and out till you don't have to think about it, then slowly add lyric. Start with the chorus and work verse by verse.

as you practice the more relaxed you are, the easier that becomes........nerves definitely play a factor in getting the song and your voice in sync. you might think you're not nervous, but it really does play a factor, because you're trying so hard to get it right. Hang in there.

This question was asked to James Hetfield of Metallica in the So What fanzine and his answer was typicaly dry:

"Move hand up and down, open and close mouth"

Sorry its not very helpful but I think it is funny!

once you get to know the guitar part well enough, you should be able to literally "not think about it".... i know it sounds easier said than done, but I struggle with it when i write something new, i've found that practice is the key...
