Do the Mexican gangs keep people from vacationing in South?

With 2,000 deaths attributed to Mexican gang activities in Mexico alone, I imagine about that much or more is also in the US. In the US, they are illegals who have a strong hand where the federal government does little to nothing against illegal aliens. Most local US police, state, county and city, cannot easily step into ICE territory, and if ICE does only a few dozen raids a year...well, that will not solve the illegal alien activity.
The drug gangs are the worst of it all, but Americans cannot distinguish the gangs from the plain illegal aliens? How many people have heard of someone going south of the border, or even to Florida, Texas or Arizona? Do these activities discourage anone from vacationing in any area?

heck there's mexican gangs DC and northern virginia(thats where i live) there's even mexican gangs in my school. We've had people who have been stabbed and had their arms cut off by mechete pretty scary
