you might want to try blank verse - my personal favorite (to write) since it doesn't need to ryhme (it's counted through syllables).

try sitting down and writing whatever comes to mind: then 'fix it up' later.
I'll help you start...


He rose to his feet, raising his sword.
swearing to the wind,
swung in the saddle,
he galloped away
over the dark
and into the blue...

(26 words, 1-2 connotations)
