The obvious is that time "steals." Like a thief. Not a very positive metaphor, you think? Time also "gives." Depends on how one looks at life, but basically, of course, it is to steal.

We lose a step a day, and comes like a thief in the night

St. Paul saying, "For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night." For the time is decided on by God when things will occur.

We lose a step everyday this way:
Answer to how many times the hands on the clock coinside between 3 p.m. and 3 p.m. the next day...

11 coincidences and one strike, multiply by coincidences by the minute and by the second 11*29*29^2+1

This is why no one ever finishes a minute waltz in a minute. This is why the Unfinished Symphony is unfinished. And this is why we won't get to the end of a complete sentence if we keep time by the clock, instead of the eternal flow of considerations about family, life and nature. Creation is eternal, transcends time and isn't ruled by the clock.

Our Genesis is not founded in temporal time. We are made by God.

Time is something we treasure, but we really never notice it until it is gone.
With respect to our lives, time takes away our youth, our health, the spring in our legs, and eventually life itself. It sneaks up on us, takes what it came for , then slips away before we even realize what happened; like a thief.

Hm... I would interpret this metaphor as time always continues even if you want it to stop. The moments you spend you can't retrieve. Time slowly steals your life basically.
