The only reason we should have the death penalty is if it deters other people from committing crimes. However, I believe facing a lifetime in prison is scary enough. To have your rights, pride, and control taken away from you is degrading.

I'm not sure if the DP deters further crime, but if it doesn't then it is more of a pain than use.

It cost more money to kill someone than to jail them for life possibly millions of dollars for appeals and stuff.

It is cruel and inhumane and barbaric.

It doesn't bring the victim back to life.

The criminal is mentally screwed up, I mean would you kill someone? Obviously they have something in them that normal people don't.

If there are no repercutions for ones actions the world would be complete anarchy with widespread mayhem murder in the streets, rape disease and plagues of disease, the death penalty is a must! Some people cant function in society therefore the prison system is full of these animals with unevolved minds

Save money. Jails aren't cheap. Would you like to know that your tax dollars are being used to feed, clothe and house rapists and murderers? Did you know that these people get better medical coverage than your average working citizen? All they have to do is just sit in a room. Their lives are paid for. Almost enough to make you want to be a criminal, huh?

i somehow don't understand death penalty.
i know that it's good to eliminate criminals from the earth so that they can't harm anyone anymore, but i always thought that punishment was a way to teach someone a lesson, to make sure that they don't repeat their mistake. I know that if they're dead they can't reapeat their mistake, but they can't really learn a lessong either. I think it's a really big price to pay, inless they took multiple lives or something.

but here's something to think about.
The government punishes people for killing other people.
but the government does it all the time. funny huh?

To dispose of people who are such a danger to our society, that killing them is the only way to keep ungrateful pansies like you safe in their beds. Someone very dear to me is a Prison Guard and I would prefer it if that person didn't have to guard serial killers.

oh yeah, someone who murders say 5 other people seriously needs to sit in prison, not have to work, to be fed off taxes and to watch t.v. for the rest of his life!

Great question. We are the only civilized country that has it. It has been shown to be not a deterrent to violent crime.
