I work at 7-eleven store. It is store policy that we ask for an id regardless of age on cigerretts and alchol sales. It does not matter if the customer is 80 years old we still need to ask. What can I say when a young customer ( 25-35) says "Gee thanks for asking I know I look young" I hate when they say that because a lot of time they look even older than their real age. What simple line can I say to convince them that they do not look young but that I have to ask regardless?

why would you want to hurt people's feelings? Let them think they look young; there's no harm in brightening someone's day.

I think in the very first place, the store should have a sign right at the counter (where everybody can see) that it's a store policy for them to produce their IDs when purchasing cigarettes or alcohol. Place another sign where your alcohol are placed and maybe another one at the door. That way, it reduces the number of times you have to say it's a store policy.

People are going to be like that no matter where you work. Unfortuntally its somthing we gotta deal with.

Just wait until you get the 70 year old man who freaks on you because you ask him. Will not be fun.

You don't need any line to tell them they look older than they are. That would be rude, especially to a female. Keep your mouth shut, and just hurry up with everyones change.

It's probably not just store policy, but also the law. Check it out. If true, say, "Sorry, it's the law." Problem solved.

say "sorry but store policy says you have we have to ask for id" that way they know you are onlt asking because you have to not because they look young.

I wouldn't worry about it. Small delusions like that are the only thing keeping some folks going. What harm, you know what I mean?

Just let them feel good for a second. Why would you not let them take it as a compliment? Even if it wasn't meant to be. Meanie.

Why don't you just let it be? You might actually be making people feel good by saying they look younger even though you don't really mean it.
