why are people so mean? thats a really good question...people are being mean because of their insecurity in their daily life...the other reason is that they have a history of being a victim, so when they have a chance to be mean to others, they do it just for the satisfication and the feeling of being the one with power...

some people have had a rough life and want to pay it forward to others. They have probably been nice in the past and was stomped on and they just can't get over it. There are some traumas that people never get over and it floods into their everyday life. Getting fired from a good job or laid off and not being able to pay the bills that could have been paid with that job. Going through a divorce that was forced on them because of circumstances beyond their control. Many things can factor into a mean person's personality. You just have to understand that not all people can shrug off problems and still be polite.

I think that some people are mean because that is the way they have been treated and they don't really know any better. Others, because they don't have a good impression of themselves and have to put others down to make themselves feel better. Other people just have a pickle up their butts and are cranky about everything and everyone.

Probably a defense mechanism; afraid of other people hurting them, so they distance themselves as best they know how.

OR they've found that nice guys finish last (which they commonly do) and they've had to rise above a nice (read: weak) demeanor and build a shell around themselves.

To sum it up, the world we live in teaches us that kindness is a weakness. Whether that's the right way or the wrong way to look at it, nobody wants to be construed as being weak.

People are mean for alot of reasons, because they are stressed, tired, annoyed, fed-up, insecure.. so they end up taking it out on the wrong person, instead of coping with life, its easier to put others down to make themselves feel good...sometimes ppl are mean just to lift themselves up..misery loves company

many answers to this questions.

most of the time, someone can be mean and put down others just so they can feel better about themselves. they have low self esteem, insecure people who need to learn to grow up.

another reason: revenge or some kind of hatred towards others. racism, discrimination, can also be learned from childhood or family.
