Check his stats. Also he won multiple World Series titles. His 56 game hitting streak will probably never be broken. MVP awards, hall of fame. Oh yeah, he's also one of the greatest players on the greatest baseball franchise of all-time, the Yankees, who play in one of the two largest media markets in the country. Being married to Marylin Monroe didn't hurt, either. He also fought in WWII.
Most important to me is the fact that he was the first prominent Italian-American and was the figurehead of a movement that ended the discrimination and violence that Italian-Americans had faced in the US for over 100 years. I'm of Italian descent and my life could have been very different if that hadn't happened. It wasn't all of Joe D's doing but he sure helped.

Are you serious. First off he was one of the best hitters ever, holding the longest hitting streak record of 56 games in 1941. That record will never be broken. He also has WS rings. Plus being with Marilyn Monroe helps too.

Joe's nephew lives in our town.. I saw lot's of pics of Joe and Marilyn and photos with George Steinbrenner(with the nephew) at Joe's funeral years ago.. I'm not sure who's son this Joe is? He is at least 62.. Never asked him. Maybe Dom's son..
