I'm a little shy and about to get a degree in Psychology. Are there any careers out there to suit me and my qualifications?

Thanks for your responses. I'm interested in forensic psychology and I have a little work experience but non in psychological fields.

How about working with children? They're a little less intimidating than adults - at least the young ones are. Try to get your license too so you can work as a psychologist. You might consider attending "Toast Masters" or some other sort of public speaking training to help you cope with your shyness. I was shy as a youngster and young adult and am still not one of those 'out there' people but I found that I did fine in business because I was qualified and good at my job. Competence = confidence. Use the old adage 'fake it til you make it' too. I used to look around at the people who were doing the job I wanted to do and figured if they could do it I could do it. Good luck!

Well, a psych degree unfortunately wont take you anywhere in the private sector on its own. You may want to look into non-client facing professions like academic research (in psych, neuropsych or perhaps a behavioral/social science field- workplace psychology is becoming a pretty hot area lately)

BTW- There are different types of contextual shyness- there are literally millions of people who can't strike up an office chat but can give beautiful classroom lectures, or vice versa. Identify the nature of your shyness and that will tell u what is a good job or not.

I have a friend who had this problem as well. Try to look for something that you don't have to outwardly deal with the public on a regular basis, like an office job. If you aren't shy on the phone, maybe you could work at a call center, answering people's questions on various products. You could also volunteer at a couple places first, and see if you would be ok working at place like that. Good luck!

You should think about going on a graduate scheme with a big company if you're expecting a decent degree.
It forces you to work your own issues through, and gives you confidence - you'll have to travel and will be challenged to do things you wouldn't normally try.
I had the same problem, but I worked out nobody else cares if you're shy, so just get out there - a graduate scheme is just one of many ways to give yourself a kick up the ****, which is what you need.

Check out the federal jobs at: http://www.usajobs.opm.gov Check out the city, county, and state jobs in your area. I am shy and I'm a teacher. Go figure! I would talk to your university and see what they recommend. Good luck.
