The Nickalodean Resort is SO designed for kids! Rooms start at $148 a night. They have 3 pool complexes, complete with climbing nets, water canons, and a lot more for the kids to play with. They also have min. golf courses and are located right off the I-4 and next to the main entrance to Disney's Magic Kingdom.
The Disney World Resorts are also ideal for kids. The All Star, Animal Kingdom Lodge, Polynesian, Port Orleans, and Pop Century are just a few of the Disney Resorts which are excellent for kids!
A nearby resort, which is just off Disney property, and is ideal for kids is the Sheraton Safari Resort. This hotel is so much fun for kids and they offer a complimentary shuttle to the parks.

My first trip to Orlando was for a school educational trip. We visited Space Camp and Kennedy Space Center. We also took a nature hike at one of the US Forest Service ranger stations. We visited Cocoa Beach and saw the egg hatching site for sea turtles. EPCOT is also a very educational park. Kids can learn about all of the different countries/cultures/languages, etc.. at the World Showcase. And they can learn about their environment and how to conserve at Living with the Land. They will also learn how technology is advancing at the Future World Pavilion.

The Disney hotels are really cute and a lot of fun for kids.

Universals hotels are also nice, but a little more expensive, but also fun for kids.

There are several hotels in the area that offer special kids programs and activities, for example Holiday Inn Sunspree.

My pick for the most kid friendly would probably be the Nick hotel, it makes me wish I was a kid again. It would be a blast for kids.

There are a ton of museums and hands on places that would be fun and educational. EPCOT is fairly educational, NASA is not too far, Sea World, Animal Kingdom, Wonderworks, etc. are all a ton of fun and offer a good educational experience as well.
