Nothing. There was a stigma years ago. My Dad is left handed. Growing up in the 30's his teachers tried to make him write right handed. He writes left handed but plays golf right handed because that was the way he was taught. The funny thing is that Phil Michelson, a top 10 golfer plays left handed even though he is right handed. The reason is he was mimicking his Dad standing in front of him.
Here is a personal revelation about left handed people. My Dad being left handed always notices other left handed people. He noticed that many waiters and bartenders were left handed. Years later when I went into the food-service business, I noticed the same thing. I once worked at a place where out of 10 people 9 were left handed. Amazing.
When someone makes a comment about being left handed, tell them this story. You have an innate ability to take care of others.

The good news is that your hemispheres are supposed to communicate better with each other and so you will be better and faster at some tasks than right-handed people (but I sent the article for recycling so I apologise for being vague). I've also heard it said that left-handed people are on average more intelligent.
I have heard it said that left-handed people die earlier, one theory is that they are more at risk of accidents through clumsiness.
Perhaps people mean that left-handed people are more awkward at certain practical skills if there are no left-handed people to show them.
Possibly they are refering to the old-fashioned (and Latin) word for left - sinister.
However I have never heard anyone pass comment about left-handed people. I am mixed-handed and when I was a psychology student I used to unintentionally muck up experiments and find certain tasks impossible. Occasionally people asked if I was left-handed, but still made no comment about left-handed people.
I wonder if MENSA have any view. I'm sure they collect statistics on whether those presenting for the test are left or right handed.

there's nothing wrong at all about being a lefty, i mean really. it's just how you write. just like reading. some people read slow, some people read fast. nothing wrong with that. it doesn't change the way you act or look. it's just how you right. pay no attention to those who say lefties live shorter then righties...well, it is KINDA true. but, really, it doesn't matter.

I think that the superstition was that left-handed people were in some way in league with the devil, which is a load of nonsense.
Some of the world's greatest artists were left-handed, so you're in very good company.

I know what you mean. I'm left handed and was told it had something to do with witches a long time ago. People were scared of left handers, I think they thought we had dark powers. They used to get burned to the steak.
But i'm sure there are more explanations, would be interesting to find out though.

The thing I hear from left-handers most (bragging) is "we are the only ones in our right minds." because to be dominant in the left side of the body means we are operating from the right side of the brain.
Is it lefties who say it to you? Kind of a common kinship I suppose, a term of endearment. I personally don't think that it tells you much about a person myself. I am a lefty but I do a lot of things righthanded. And I love this about myself but I wouldn't say it says anything about me. It says I have to try everything both ways to see if I am going to do better right or left. Most of what I learned was in right handed style. I say I am lefthanded because I eat and write with my left hand. Batting too. Scissors, throwing, mousing, ladles, paring knives, etc are all done in my right hand. So I can eat my fruit loops at the computer with NO PROBLEMS.
Most right handers are completely retarded in their left hand, the left hand is only there for decoration. Leftys are not like this usually with our right hands. We have a lot of dexerity in the right hand, even if we aren't ambi at anything or everything. We use them both well because of practice in the right hand, and talent in the left.
Maybe I should pay more attn to this, I am very clumsy with stuff like pouring.
Funny story, my mom used to buy me all kinds of special lefty crap like scissors for home ec as a freshman in high school...she had already tried to send me to kindergarten with lefthanded scissors and I hated them. So by high school, I had already been using scissors my whole life and they were RIGHT handed scissors. Why my mom expected me to switch I have no idea. I actually cut myself with my own damn scissors in a smile and nod moment trying to act grateful that she had been so nice to think of these things.

there is NOTHING wrong with being left handed.
Most people are right-handed. So when someone sees a leftie it is kind of surprising. I know a couple of people (including teacher) who are lefties.
And sorry, I don't know what they say about left handed people.....

the word sinister comes from the latin for left, roman legionairres march sinister dexter, left right. so the word dexterous comes from the same. left handedness was seen as being a mark of the devil, as the nuns who taught me in the sixties were fond of reminding me, oh how we laughed at the hospital when i had two of my fingers broken for belligerently writing with my left hand instead of my right hand like normal people do. luckilly today most people don't hold that view, but i still get comments. oh, your left handed they say. am i? i reply, i never noticed before. i better keep it hidden before the ban comes in, no being left handed in a public place.
lots of famous people are right handed, but their all sh**e. paul mccartney, jimi hendrix and einstein were/ are left handed.

Left handed people are more creative, I have 2 left handed children, both artists.
Great damage used to be caused to children by ignorant people trying to force them to use their right hand. King George V1 stuttered because he was forced as a child to try to write with his right hand.

I bet they don't know either and are just saying something that they heard someone else say. There is nothing wrong with left handed people at all.
