I've heard that during the McCarthy era, after Lucille Ball was accused of being a Communist, the networks 'magically' and/or quietly changed Ricky's heritage from Cuban to Mexcian (for clear Castro-fied reasons)...even going so far as doing an episode featuring a Mexican family member.

Is this true?

Nope ... when "I Love Lucy" was on the air, Castro hadn't taken over in Cuba yet. Havana was a popular tourist destination during the 1950's.

"I Love Lucy" ran from 1951 to 1957. Castro took over Cuba in early 1959.

There are already plans in the works to end the wet foot dry foot policy when Castro dies. Bush has indicated it will normalize relations on immigration which will include more family type immigration and less wet foot dry foot type immigration, just like Mexico. It isn't Mexico that is treated unfairly. Even with this provision more are let in legally from Mexico than from any other country in the world. However, the Cuba situation is unique to them; Haiti doesn't get it either. It is born of cold war politics and is due to be rethought.
